Bellevue Schools

The Bellevue School District is one of the best in the United States according to Newsweek's annual list of the nation's Top 100 Schools.  The International School (11th), Bellevue High School (32nd), Newport High School (49th), and Interlake High School (59th) were placed on this prestigious list based on the average number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Cambridge Tests taken per student.

Honors like these aren't new to the Bellevue School District.  The schools have placed on Newsweek's Top 100 list several times before, and Sammamish High School (a top 200 school) recently earned Washington State's Siemens Award for Advanced Placement.  Governor Gregoire recognized the excellence of the Bellevue School District in a 2005 letter stating, "In an environment that has been aptly called 'one of the most advanced districts in America,' teachers and administrators are accountable for excellence in teaching.  Parents and children respond with accountability for learning.  In this, you have truly set the standard for our state."

The Bellevue School District can also pride itself on one of the best Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) passing rates in the state.  An astounding 91% of students pass the reading portion of the test, 89% pass writing, and 69% pass math on their first attempt.  (Compare these to the state averages of 82%, 80%, and 51%, respectively.)  Students are required to pass certain portions of the WASL to graduate.  This is just one of the reasons the Bellevue School District also has one of the highest graduation rates in the state.

Bellevue High School (10416 SE Wolverine Way)
Bellevue High School is a hub of education, extracurricular activities, and preparation for the future.  It is a model of progress, increasing the number of AP Tests taken from 91 to 1,445 in under 10 years.  Bellevue High School offers more than strong academics, however.  The 65 sports teams (20 varsity) represent just a portion of non-academic activities students can be involved in.

Interlake High School (16245 NE 24th)
With a new building just completed in 2005, Interlake High School offers some of the best resources for students in the Bellevue School District.  Interlake's SAT, AP, and IB rates are well above both the state and the national average, and with 41% of students speaking a first language other than English, Interlake boasts a level of diversity unequaled in the rest of the Bellevue School District.

International School (445 128th Ave. SE)
The International School has a unique grade 6-12 structure. The curriculum is prepared so that "graduates will view the world and its peoples analytically and realistically.  They will present themselves as critical thinkers, efficient problem solvers, and effective communicators."  With approximately 96% of its teachers labeled as "high qualified" and special offerings of "a seven-year student/teacher/family relationship fostered in a small school environment," International School produces some of the best-prepared students in the country.

Newport High School (4333 Factoria Blvd SE)
Newport High School was selected as Blue Ribbon National School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education, identifying it as a "national model of excellence that others can learn from."  Student opportunities include a Spanish Immersion program, Culinary Arts courses, leadership classes, a number of varsity sports teams, and much more.  Newport is truly a world class high school.

Sammamish High School (100 140th Ave. SE)
Sammamish High School is rated in the top 1% of high schools in the nation. In addition to its impressive test scores and strong sports teams, it is home of a unique arts magnet program. Remodeled in 2004, Sammamish offers modern facilities along with its constantly updated curriculum and effective block schedule. The school also has a strong relationship with the University of Washington's education program, providing Sammamish with the nation's 8th ranked College of Education as resource and support for the already thriving school.
